ACF PRO

A WordPress plugin that lets a site’s content be structured with custom fields — instead of one big freeform text box, a Service post can have its own icon, summary, and description fields, each editable on its own.

The default editor is fine for simple pages, but structured content (Services, Work, FAQs, Theme Settings) needs a structured way to enter it. ACF is what makes that possible without custom-coding an admin interface from scratch.

Yes — ACF PRO adds Repeater fields, Flexible Content (the system that builds this very Home page section by section), Gallery fields, and an Options Page for sitewide settings, none of which exist in the free version.

It lets a page be assembled from reorderable, configurable sections (Hero, Services teaser, Stats, and so on) instead of being one rigid template — which is literally how this site’s own Home page works.

If you want to keep editing the same kind of structured content yourself long-term, yes — it’s an inexpensive annual license, and it’s what powers the admin screens you’d be using.

It’s stored as standard WordPress post meta in your own database — not a proprietary format. It’s tied to having ACF active to display it the same way, but the underlying data is yours.

Gutenberg is great for freeform page content; ACF is better suited to structured, repeatable data models (Services, Work, Technologies) where every entry needs the same defined fields.

Not meaningfully when used well — it’s a mature, well-optimized plugin, and structured fields typically load more efficiently than parsing a pile of freeform content anyway.

Generally not — well-labeled custom fields with clear instructions (which is how this theme’s fields are set up) tend to be more intuitive for a non-technical editor than a blank content area.

Yes — that’s one of the real advantages of building around ACF from the start: adding a new field to a Service or Work post is straightforward, not a structural rebuild.
