WordPress

WordPress is the open-source content management system that powers a large share of the web. I build on it because it’s mature, well-documented, and flexible enough to be built exactly around how a business actually works, rather than forcing you into someone else’s template.

Not anymore, and honestly not for a long time. This site itself is a custom WordPress build with no blog at all — Services, Work, and structured content driven by custom fields instead of freeform posts. WordPress is a real application platform underneath the CMS reputation.

WordPress itself is actively maintained and secure when kept current. Most real-world security problems come from outdated plugins, weak hosting, or neglected maintenance — which is exactly what ongoing WordPress maintenance and support is meant to prevent.

Your content lives in a standard MySQL database, not a proprietary format tied to one vendor. That’s one of the real advantages over closed platforms — if you ever needed to move it, the content itself is portable.

WordPress.com is a hosted product with real limits on themes, plugins, and customization. What I build is self-hosted, open-source WordPress with full control over the code, hosting, and functionality — a completely different level of flexibility.

No. Day-to-day content — text, images, new pages, new posts — is handled through WordPress’s normal editing screens. That’s part of the point of building it custom: you get an easy editing experience without being boxed into a generic template.

WordPress, its themes, and its plugins all get regular updates for security and compatibility. If you’re on a maintenance plan, I handle reviewing and applying those for you rather than leaving it to chance.

WordPress scales well — it runs everything from small business sites to some of the highest-traffic sites on the internet. What actually determines whether you outgrow a site is how it was built, not the platform itself.

A theme controls how your site looks and is structured; a plugin adds functionality (a contact form, an SEO tool, e-commerce, and so on). This site’s theme is custom-built rather than a pre-made theme, which is part of why it doesn’t need a stack of plugins just to function.

Those tools are fine for something simple you’ll never need to extend. WordPress is the better choice once you need real structure, custom functionality, or the freedom to change hosts, developers, or direction later without starting over.
